Q&A about throwing a 1/8oz jig the Suzuki Special II UL Surf Rods

Question:

"I’m looking at Black Hole USA Suzuki Special II UL Surf rods. I like the longer length for casting further. I throw a lot of 1/8 oz jigs with a 3” paddle tail on it. My question is I see the Suzuki Special II UL 8’ and 8’6” are 1/4-1-1/2 oz and the 9’ and 9’6” is 3/8 - 2 oz. Will I be able to get the longer UL rods or would you recommend going 8’ to 8’6” rod for 1/8 oz with paddle tail."

"When throwing 1/8 oz jig head with a 3" soft plastic paddle tail, that equals to an obvious 1/4 oz of weight, which both series of lengths would work, the 8-8'6" & the 9'. Even though our ratings show a 3/8oz when going with the 9' lengths, I have gone as low as 1/4 oz with my Tog jig and baited with fiddler crabs here in the USA and in Aruba.

Paired with light braided line in the 8-10lb class, you will get maximum castability when throwing Ultralight baits. If the angler wants versatility, as even as going up in oz in bait to a 4" paddle tail, you are now throwing 3/8oz paired with the 1/8oz jig head.

If the angler likes to bust thru grass, jig around rocky shoreline, cast better on winder days, I would suggest going with the 9' and enjoy the benefits of the blank, allowing you to throw baits slightly under the rating and still feel comfortable setting the hook without sacrificing the catch. In fresh water this a great musky rod, carp, pike, steelhead, salmon, etc."
